Procrastination is a barrier to success, but it can be overcome by taking consistent, intentional action.
Overcoming procrastination is like decorating the Empire State Building with flowers—massive, daunting, yet breathtaking once achieved.
Now, ask yourself:
If you had to decorate the Empire State Building with flowers, what would your style be?
- One petal at a time, steady and patient?
- A bold, all-at-once masterpiece?
- A strategic design, climbing floor by floor?
Whatever your approach—just start. Because even the tallest skyscrapers are built brick by brick, and every masterpiece begins with the first stroke.
What’s holding you back? Fear? Doubt?
The illusion of “perfect timing”? Success doesn’t wait. Neither should you.
Think about it—Elon Musk doesn’t wait for the “right time” to launch a rocket. Warren Buffett doesn’t hesitate to make billion-dollar investment moves.
They act. Because action creates momentum, and momentum creates RESULTS.
To overcome procrastination, you must master your time, focus on the most important tasks, and learn to take action quickly. Success comes not just from intelligence or talent, but from disciplined work habits.
The Secret? Break the Pattern
Your brain is wired for survival, NOT success. It will try to keep you in your comfort zone, whispering, “Tomorrow is a better day to start.”
LIES! The best time to start was yesterday. The second best time? RIGHT NOW.
Leaders don’t wait for the perfect moment.
They make the moment perfect. HERE ARE DETAILS…

Alice Boyes suggests 3 strategies to have an effective strategy in his article on Harvard Business Review & How to Stop Procrastinating:
“Do you keep postponing work you need to do?
The problem probably stems from one of three things:
- Your habits and systems (or lack thereof),
- Your desire to avoid negative emotions (like anxiety and boredom), or
- Your own flawed thinking patterns (which can make a task seem harder than it is).
Luckily, there are simple strategies for managing each.
To develop good habits, for instance, do your important work in a consistent pattern daily: After I do this, I do my deep work.
Devise a system for starting new tasks (drawing on one you’ve handled well); that will make it easier to get the ball rolling. When a task makes you anxious, do the easiest part first and progress from there; motivate yourself to do a boring task with a reward for completing it.
And if you’re cognitively blocked, consider what would make a task impossible—and then identify its opposite. Novel work often is filled with friction.
You must recognize that tension doesn’t mean you’re not making progress. And if a project still feels overwhelming, tackle it in small chunks of time, not big ones.”
Let Go of this Mindset: The Mindset of Procrastination
- People think about the PAIN of starting now
- People think about the PLEASURE of doing something else…
Use The Mindset of Effective Leaders… – The Pain of Waiting vs. The Power of Doing
THINK THE PAINFUL CONSEQUENCES OF PROCRASTINATION
Procrastination Steals Time, Success Demands Action
Stop focusing on the pain of starting and instead focus on the pain of not acting (missed opportunities, regret).
Think: The painful consequences of procrastination—missed opportunities, lost time, and dreams that never take flight.
IMAGINE THE PAIN OF POSTPONING THE DECORATION OF THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING WITH FLOWERS—A TASK LEFT UNFINISHED, OPPORTUNITIES LOST, AND BEAUTY LEFT UNEXPRESSED
THINK GOOD RESULTS OF FINISHING THE WORK
Action Fuels Success—Every Task Done is a Step Forward
Visualize the rewards of completing tasks (e.g., the beauty of a decorated Empire State Building, personal growth, and success).
Think: The incredible results of finishing the work—momentum, mastery, and success stacking like bricks on an empire.

World-renowned leaders, entrepreneurs, and scientists have used various strategies to overcome procrastination. Here are some:
1. Elon Musk: “Build, Iterate, Dominate—One Floor at a Time.”
Start now, improve as you go—just like launching a rocket.
“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favour.” ― Elon Musk
A mind that sees beyond gravity, turning impossible into ignition.
Innovate. Launch. Conquer
Technique: Musk works by dividing his day into 5-minute segments. This method allows him to use his time more efficiently.
How to Apply? Divide your day into specific time blocks and spend each block focusing on a specific task. This way, you can prevent distractions and accomplish big things in small chunks of time.

2. Warren Buffett: “Compound Your Actions Like Investments—The Sooner, The Greater.”
Every small effort today grows into something massive over time—just like wealth.
“Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.” ― Warren Buffett
Every move is calculated, every risk is strategic, and every decision compounds into legacy.
Patience Pays. Strategy Wins.
Technique: Buffett divides his to-do list into two:
1) The 5 most important goals
2) Other non-priority tasks
How to Apply? First, set 25 goals. Then choose the 5 most critical goals and ignore the rest. This way, you can focus on the really important tasks.

3. Richard Branson: “Say Yes, Start Climbing—You’ll Figure It Out.”
The best way to beat procrastination? Jump in and adjust as you rise.
“A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instincts.” ― Richard Branson
Like a fearless explorer, he sails into uncharted territories, seeing adventure where others see risk.
Dare to Dream. Dare to Do.
Technique: Branson has developed a habit of doing an idea or task immediately when it comes to his mind.
How to Apply? Instead of procrastinating, motivate yourself to start a task in at least 2 minutes. Even taking a small step will help you move things forward.

4. Steve Jobs: “Great Work Begins with One Brick—Start Laying.”
Perfection is the enemy of progress—get started and refine along the way.
Pursue simplicity “Simple can be harder than complex,” Steve Jobs famously said. He always aimed for the simplest solution, free from unnecessary complexity.
A sculptor of the future, chiseling away the ordinary to reveal the extraordinary.
Think Different. Lead Different.
Technique: Jobs would focus on the most important issues by eliminating unnecessary tasks and decisions.
How to Apply? Analyze your daily tasks and eliminate unnecessary tasks. Ask yourself, “Is this really important?” If not, don’t waste your energy.
Here’s Your Game Plan:
- Apply the 5-Second Rule: Got an idea? A task? Count down 5-4-3-2-1 and MOVE!
- Destroy the “Someday” Mentality: “Someday” is the killer of dreams. Put a deadline on your goals.
- Leverage the 80/20 Rule: Focus on high-impact moves that drive 80% of your success.
- Adopt the 2-Minute Rule: If something takes less than 2 minutes, DO IT NOW.
- Create Urgency: No more “I’ll get to it.” Set a 24-hour challenge and EXECUTE.
